  • Recently suffered an injury? Here is a step-by-step guide to making a claim

personal injury

Suffering an injury is an unwanted inconvenience and often causes stress and trauma to an individual, putting a hold on your regular day-to-day routine. If there’s blame to be placed then you can rest assured that there’s compensation to be afforded to you.

From the point of contact with a solicitor you are put in safe and experienced hands as to what’s to follow with collecting the necessary evidence and setting up court proceedings. It’s important you identify where and why your personal injury occurred as after all it’s about obtaining as much documentation against the offending party as possible.

What are the steps I need to take?

Step 1: Reporting the injury

The very first thing you need to do is report your injury. This is an important step as the report will be used to help your case, making it much easier for your solicitor. If it happened at work, make sure your office manager or HR department knows about it as soon as possible.

Step 2: Seeking a solicitor

Find yourself a good solicitor who has expertise in personal injury. Try to find a solicitor who speaks plainly and makes the effort to help you understand the whole process.

Step 3: Collect evidence

You need to gather as much evidence as you can from medical notes, time you spent away from work recovering from injuries, the initial written report and information from witnesses.

Step 4: Contacting the defendant

Your solicitor will take all the information you have gathered and write a letter of claim to the defendant party.  This tells them what you want to happen. After that, court proceeding may begin.
